Both types of gears are made from high-strength mold steel and are treated with nickel plating or DLC coating. The overall Rockwell hardness (HRC) of the gears ranges from 55 / 62-65. The DLC coating significantly enhances the gears' strength, wear resistance, and corrosion resistance, thereby improving their load-bearing capacity and extending their service life.

The nickel-plated version is more affordable and suitable for printing non-carbon fiber materials, offering higher hardness compared to standard stainless steel gears. The DLC-coated gears are ideal for printing carbon fiber materials, providing superior wear resistance, although they come at a higher cost.
